About This Place

Nestled within the historic Villard Houses and elegantly situated at 455 Madison Avenue, The Gold Room offers a sophisticated cocktail bar experience that perfectly blends New York City’s timeless charm with modern luxury. This upscale venue, housed inside the prestigious Lotte New York Palace Hotel, invites guests into a uniquely glamorous setting—a space steeped in history, where rich gold accents and exquisite architectural details create an atmosphere both intimate and grand.

The Gold Room specializes in an artfully curated cocktail menu where classic and contemporary mixes come alive. Signature drinks like the velvety Filthy Rich Martini, the robust yet smooth Boulevardier, and the tantalizing Pisco Sour showcase masterful craftsmanship with complex layers of flavor. Fans of bubbly will appreciate the elegantly served Champagne, while adventurous palates can delight in offerings such as the French Connection or the refreshingly zesty Margarita. Among cocktail aficionados, the Negroni here is legendary—praised by patrons for its generous pour and impeccable balance, making it one of the best in the city.

Complementing the drinks is an exceptional selection of refined shared plates designed to elevate your experience. Indulge in the Black Truffle Frites, where crispy fries coated with a decadent truffle garlic aioli offer an intoxicating umami richness. The Korean Style Wings boast a perfect harmony of savory garlic soy glaze with a spicy kimchi aioli, delivering bold yet balanced flavors. For those seeking luxury, the Osciètre Caviar served with buckwheat blinis and traditional accompaniments is a sublime treat. The Villard Sliders, crafted from a prime beef blend and topped with cheddar cheese and fresh tomato, strike a delightful balance between hearty and gourmet comfort. Light yet flavorful bites like Tuna Tartare with spiced soy and bagel chips or the Jamón de Bellota with artisan toast round out the menu elegantly.

Late-night dessert options here match the caliber of the bar’s liquid offerings. Whether savoring the warm, crisp apple crumble, the decadent Chocolate Grand Marnier Mousse Cake, or the creamy NY Style Cheesecake, each dessert delivers a perfect sweet finish that lingers satisfyingly on the palate.

Guests often comment on the refined yet cozy ambiance of The Gold Room. Despite its luxurious aesthetics, the space maintains an inviting intimacy where the service team shines with attentiveness and genuine hospitality. Lovely bar. Drinks are pricey but service and environment were great. Largest and best Negroni my wife had ever had! And last orders are at 23.45 unlike other bars around.

The Gold Room is located inside the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. It has a beautiful atmosphere and the restaurant is small yet cozy. There is also a bar available. The restaurant is open until midnight, but the kitchen closed around 11 pm.

I’ve been taking people here for years! The Gold Room is one of my favorite places to take friends when they visit the city. As a huge fan of New York's history, the entire experience is very special from entering the courtyard of the Villard Houses (built in 1884 and originally called Cathedral Court because it faces the back of St. Patrick’s Cathedral), which any Gossip Girl fan will recognize as the residence of the Van der Woodsen family, to ascending the stairs inside to the right and entering The Gold Room itself, which is located in the southern wing of the Villard Houses. Walking into The Gold Room is like stepping into a gilded jewel of New York’s architectural past. Its shimmering surfaces, classical artistry, and hidden musical balcony create an unforgettable, timeless atmosphere, perfectly blending history with modern elegance. It’s one of the most iconic settings in the city, both visually and experientially. They have a wide variety of drinks, many with names calling back to New York's past and pop culture such as The Commodore (referring to Cornelius Vanderbilt), The Carnegie, The Mrs. Astor (referring to Caroline "Lina" Astor, who led the Four Hundred, New York City's high society during the Gilded Age of the 1870's - 1900), and Gossip Girl. Whether you're enjoying a cocktail in the evening or just admiring the space during a quiet moment, The Gold Room is a rare gem. It’s like stepping into another era of opulent, elegant, and unforgettable grandeur. Every detail, from the gilded ceilings to the finely crafted cocktails, feels thoughtfully preserved and beautifully reimagined. Also to note: The courtyard often has great decorations year-round that are great for photos. If you visit during the holidays, there is a beautiful Christmas tree and other lights and decorations which make the courtyard one of the best areas to visit during the holidays if you love that time of year.

Amazing, tasty, drinks in a very upscale venue. Our service was lacking (which made the 20% default tip on the $30 drinks seem excessive) but I absolutely recommend this bar for a drink and a bite.

Had drinks at the Gold Bar last night while staying at the Lotte Palace Hotel. The bartenders were lovely and engaging. The space itself is stunning and just what you would expect with a name like “The Gold Bar.” I tried the Filthy Rich Martini ($50) as I had a credit at the hotel to use and can honestly tell you I did not perceive any difference between it and a regular martini with decent vodka. I then had an old fashioned which was really well made. The nuts were a highlight (a blend of salty, sweet and spicy), and the Roquefort stuffed olives were worth the extra. Overall a good experience, but I probably wouldn’t go back without a credit to use as it is quite pricey for drinks that aren’t that much better than any other.

The Gold Room is another classic Manhattan cocktail lounge, the kind of place where you automatically sit up straighter because the walls look like they’ve seen things. Pro tip: check in with the host, even if you’re just aiming for a spot at the bar. This is Manhattan — even the bar stools have a waitlist. The dirty vodka martini is excellent, the kind that makes you remember why this drink survived every cocktail trend of the last century. Drinks arrived quickly, service was friendly with a smile, and everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working in a room this pretty. Yes, it’s pricey — but you’re paying for the atmosphere, and the atmosphere delivers. Think golden glow, quiet sophistication, and the sense that you’ve stumbled into a very tasteful time capsule. A lovely spot for a cocktail and a reminder that Manhattan still does these lounges better than anywhere else.

Little bit loud on weekdays but pleasant atmosphere for few drinks. Hot tea is amazing. Old fashioned drinks are great. Elegant spot for couple drinks.

I loved Mr B! He was so sweet! The drinks were great and the inside has such beautiful rooms. They also have free nuts which is a nice touch
